Beauty Products: Make-up Base using Cream versus Powder foundations make a difference

Many people only use cream foundations while others swear by powder foundations. In reality, you may opt to use either cream or powder foundations depending on the time of day, type of event, and effect you’re trying to achieve.

Cream foundations offer the advantage of even distribution for light, quick coverage as well as heavy application to a particular problem area to mask darker areas of skin.  In addition, creams have a stronger lasting effect on the skin, as a slight application of cream in the morning may easily last through the afternoon on certain skin-types. Moisturizing cream foundations have the added benefit of keeping the skin hydrated if not used in combination with other creams.  For mature skin, however, natural skin contours such as cracks and wrinkles may easily make it into the fissures of the dermis at times, creating an unwanted look with a cream foundation. In addition, oily skin-types sometimes interfere with the base pigment of the foundation itself, causing a blurring of skin pigment from a creamy-transparent tone to a soft orange pigment.

On the other hand, powder foundations avoid the pigment blurring with oily skin-types and instead, blend nicely with oily and combination skin.  Both pressed and loose powder foundations offer distinct advantages.  While loose powder feels like talc powder in nature, it should be applied lightly with a brush to achieve a matte finish that will last longer than a pressed powder foundation.  In contrast, pressed powders offer simpler and cleaner application throughout the day as both aid in reducing skin shininess.

To decide on a color and foundation best for you, start with three to four colors that best match your skin pigment.  Apply several different colors under the eyes, nose, and cheeks to get the best variation with your natural skin pigment.  At times, a blend of different colors will create the perfect skin tone match.

Often times the lighting of the shopping mall or the department store may not be the best place to blend and colorize your skin pigment.  In fact, the best place may be in the comfort of your own home.
